MRT Dhoby Ghaut Station

The Dhoby Ghaut Station is an interchange station of MRT Northeast Line and North-South Line. The new station was constructed by design and build contract by M/s Obayashi Corporation. Kiso-Jiban was engaged by M/s Obayashi as a geotechnical consultant who was responsible for the design of excavation and foundation throughout the construction. The 30 to 40m deep excavation was needed to construct the station right next to the existing station and tunnels protected by stringent deformation and stress criteria. The station excavation was conducted using a combination of secant pile wall, sheet pile wall soldier piles with shotcrete supported by struts and ground anchors depending on existence of soft soils. The excavation was analyzed by FEM. Recharging wells were designed and installed to prevent settlement of surrounding pre-war buildings.
